ATLANTA – The Georgia State men's golf team will close out a busy fall season beginning on Friday at the inaugural White Sands Invitational at the Ocean Club in Nassau, Bahamas. It marks the first of two-straight events for the Panthers in the Caribbean.
Following a practice round on Thursday morning, the 15-team field will utilize an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to complete the 54-hole event.
The inaugural event is being hosted by Houston as the teams play and compete at Atlantis.
"This is a great way to finish the fall season," head coach Chad Wilson said. "We haven't play as well as we have wanted, but we have continued to get better. We have a chance this week to play against some really good teams and I expect us to compete well as we finish up the fall season."
The 15-team field includes No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 SMU, No. 23 Arkansas, No. 28 Houston, No. 46 UAB, along with Florida State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, North Illinois, Samford, and Wisconsin.
Georgia State is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic where senior Ashton Poole led the Panthers with a tie for 17th. Poole leads the team with a 70.56 scoring average, three top 25 finishes, and six rounds in the 60's this fall.
Poole will lead a line-up that also includes seniors Josh Edgar and Egill Gunnarsson, junior Owen Sertl, and sophomore David Li.

Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course to open the spring season Feb. 23-25, at the Puerto Rico Classic at TPC Dorado Beach.
