Softball Falls to Troy in Series Opener

ATLANTA - Georgia State's softball team was defeated 4-1 Friday against Troy in the first of a three-game series.

Ivie Drake's solo home run in the bottom of the first inning was the only run for the Panthers in the series opener.

It was the seventh home run of the season for the senior and the 54th of her career.

Starting pitcher Mandy Chance took a no-hitter into the fourth inning and finished the game allowing two runs on three hits over 5.0 innings of work.

Troy's big hit came in the top of the fifth when Taylor Corbett singled home two runs to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead.

Troy would add a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 4-1.

Drake finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. Megan Litumbe, Brenna Skalski, Caitlin Ray and Taylor Chadwick each recorded hits as well.

The Panthers will look to take the series Saturday by sweeping the doubleheader against the Trojans. First pitch of Game 2 in the series will be at 1 p.m. followed by Game 3 directly after.
