ARLINGTON, Texas – Georgia State's softball team returned to conference play Saturday with a doubleheader at UT Arlington. Game 1 went to the Panthers and Game 2 was suspended due to weather in the fifth inning and will be resumed Sunday.
Game 1: GSU 7, UTA 1
Georgia State (14-11, 1-2) picked up its first Sun Belt win of the season behind a stellar performance in the circle by Kinsley Jennings and a grand slam off the bat of Arden Jobe.
Jennings went the distance allowing just one earned on four hits. Her seventh complete game of the season helped the senior improve to 7-4 in 2018.
Georgia State's big hit came in the top of the second when Arden Jobe sent a one-out grand slam over the wall in left to give GSU the 4-0 lead.
Saturday's home run was the second career homer for Jobe. Her other long ball came back in 2016 and was also a grand slam.
UTA got a single run back in the home half of the second, but Jennings would cruise for the final five innings.
Georgia State added insurance with three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 7-1.
Game 2: UTA 3, GSU 0 (Game suspended due to rain in the 5th inning)
UT Arlington held a 3-0 lead with two outs in the top of the fifth when storms moved into the area and caused a lightning delay. Eventually, play was suspended and the two sides agreed to resume the game Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.
Game 3 of the series will be played following the conclusion of Game 2.
