Panthers Go 2-0 on Day 1 of Tiger Invite

AUBURN, Ala. – Georgia State's softball team started the Tiger Invitational 2-0 with wins over Delaware and Saint Francis Friday at the Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn.

Game 1: GSU 2, Delaware 1

Emily Soles was superb in the circle in the first game of the weekend. Soles went all seven innings and recorded nine strikeouts while giving up just one run on four hits. It was the first win on the year for the sophomore.

On offense, freshman Skylar Mosel continued her impressive start to her collegiate career, hitting her first collegiate home run to lead off the top of the third.

Senior Ivie Drake doubled home a run in the fourth to give GSU enough run support to get Soles the victory.

Game 2: GSU 10, Saint Francis 3

Georgia State's bats exploded for 10 runs on 14 hits in the second game of the day. GSU also took advantage of three errors by SFU.

The Red Flash got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Georgia State responded with two runs of their own in the top of the third as Arden Jobe doubled home Remington Hasty and Ivie Drake.

The big inning was the fourth, as GSU rattled off five hits and used a pair of errors to put six runs on the board. Taylor Bradley started off the inning with a hit-by-pitch. After a Kristin Hawkins single, Brenna Skalski singled up the middle to score Bradley. Reagan Morgan then doubled home Hawkins and Drake singled to bring in both Skalski and Morgan. Remington Hasty added a double of her own to bring home Drake and the Jobe reached base on an error that allowed Hasty to come home for the sixth run of the frame.

Georgia State would add another run in the fifth with an RBI-single by Caitlin Ray.

The Panthers scored their 10th run of the game in the top of the seventh with a double by Ray that scored Drake.

Kinsley Jennings went five innings to improve to 3-0 on the year. She totaled seven strikeouts and gave up just four hits. Mallory Parson came on in relief and threw two scoreless innings to finish off the Red Flash.

Georgia State (4-4) faces both Delaware and Saint Francis again on Saturday at the Tiger Invite.
