GSU Overcomes 3-1 Deficit to Take Down Louisville

What you need to know:

After sweeping New Mexico back on Jan. 29th, Georgia State picked up its second consecutive win over Louisville 4-3 inside Louisville's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Panthers improve to 2-3 on the young season.

* Junior Kristin Rehse sealed the win for the defending Sun Belt champions with a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (4-6) win over the Cardinals' Aleksandra Mally. Arina Taluyenko, Damira Muminović and Anastasia Grosheva each picked up singles victories for GSU.

* The Panthers will get back on the court tomorrow with a chance to improve to .500 on the year. The team takes on the Miami OH Redhawks at noon ET.


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Georgia State women's tennis earned its second win in a row Friday evening. The Panthers (2-3) triumphed over the Louisville Cardinals 4-3 to hand the host Cardinals their first loss of the season.

Louisville (6-1) won the doubles point with Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg defeating GSU's Tarani Kamoe and Arina Taluyenko. The Panthers never quit and grinded out a victory as all six singles matches went until completion.

Damira Muminović, Anastasia Grosheva, Arina Taluyenko and Kristin Rehse each garnered singles victories on the road. Showing real resolve, the Panthers overcame a 3-1 deficit to take the match 4-3.

Taluyenko ousted Humberg 6-3, 4-6 and 7-5 to tie up the match 3-3.

Then, Rehse managed to grind out a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (4-6) win to give GSU the road win 4-3 inside Louisville's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Earlier in the day, Muminović and Rehse overcame Ariana Rodriguez and Jessie Paul 6-1 to put the Panthers on the board in doubles.

Winners of two in a row, the Panthers will look to continue their high level of play tomorrow at noon. GSU and head coach Jason Marshall will try to improve to .500 on the season when the team goes head-to-head with Miami OH.
