ATLANTA – Senior Linn Timmermann has been named this week's Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of The Week. This is the second time in three weeks she has won the award.
Timmermann recorded two important three-set victories against conference foes Troy and #46 South Alabama. The Panthers won both matches 4-3.
Against Troy's Jiayuan Xue, she rallied from dropping the first 2-6 to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.
Versus South Alabama, Timmermann faced the No. 91 ranked player in the nation in Alexandria Stiteler. The senior from Rostock, Germany, dropped the first set once again, but rallied to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-6. Her win tied the match at 2-2 and swung momentum in favor of the Panthers.
Timmermann is 4-1 this calendar year including 3-1 in dual play against currently ranked opponents.
In the No. 1 positions, the senior recorded back to back two-set matches on the weekend in singles and went 1-1 in doubles, leading the Panthers to a strong 2-0 opening in conference play.
For the season, Timmermann holds an 11-5 record in singles and is tied for a team best 11-4 record in doubles with partner Tarani Kamoe.
Georgia State is riding the momentum of a five match winning streak into the Sun Belt Conference Championships which will take place April 21-24.
