What you need to know:
* On Friday night, Georgia State dropped its seventh conference match of the season in straight sets to South Alabama. The Jaguars took the match by a final score of 23-25, 19-25 and 18-25.
* With the loss, GSU falls to 3-4 in the Sun Belt and 7-11 overall. Senior Kristina Stinson and sophomore Crystal Lee led the offense for the Panther with 17 combined kills. Senior Eliza Zachary and sophomore Sydney Stroud added five kills apiece as Sarah Renner contributed 26 assists.
* The Panthers will look to bounce back and get to .500 in conference play on Sunday afternoon against the Troy Trojans.
MOBILE, Ala. – Georgia State dropped its first match of the weekend in straight sets to South Alabama on Friday night. Head coach Sally Polhamus and the Panthers fall to 3-4 in the SBC and 7-11 overall.
The Panthers had five players with five or more kills in the match. Kristina Stinson and Crystal Lee led the offensive attack with 17 combined kills, but it wasn't enough to counter Mechell Daniel and the Jags. Sarah Renner added 26 assists and Celeste Friesen tallied 15 digs.
The Jaguars improved to 2-4 in the Sun Belt and 11-8 overall behind Daniel's 10 kills and Nikki Gittens' nine kills. South Alabama came out aggressively against the Panthers as Ashlyn Roberts totaled 18 assists and Arissa Chappell registered 12 digs to lead the Jaguar defense.
The Panthers came from behind in the opening frame to tie the score at 23. After a Jaguar timeout, a kill from Daniel and an attacking error sealed the opening set for the home team inside Jag Gym. From there, USA managed to defeat GSU despite the Panthers' resistance.
Sydney Stroud and Anna Rantala also performed well for Georgia State with 5 kills and 11 digs, respectively.
GSU will look to get back on track and improve to .500 in SBC play on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against the Troy Trojans.
