ATLANTA — Georgia State volleyball head coach Jorge Martinez announced Wednesday the addition of Wes Schneider to the Panthers' coaching staff as an assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to welcome Schneider to our staff," head coach Martinez said. "His experience at every level of the game, combined with his energy and commitment to developing our student athletes, aligns with the standard we are building at GSU volleyball"
Schneider brings more than 20 years of coaching experience spanning the club, NAIA, Division II and Division I levels. Most recently, he coached at TStreet Volleyball Club, one of the nation's premier club programs.
Prior to joining Georgia State, Schneider served as the head coach at Life Pacific University, where he guided the Warriors to a 49-30 overall record. During his tenure, he developed four Great Southwest Athletic Conference All-Conference selections, including the program's first Player of the Year in school history.
Before Life Pacific, Schneider led the men's volleyball program at California Baptist University to a No. 5 national ranking in 2013 and earned a nomination for AVCA DI/DII National Coach of the Year.
His three-year stint at CBU followed a successful run at Division II Lees-McRae College, where he led the program to three straight regular season and tournament titles in the Conference Carolinas (CC). His LMC squad also became the first in conference history to go undefeated in back-to-back conference seasons.
Schneider's Lees-McRae squads won 49 consecutive conference matches and captured the program's 13th overall conference championship in 2011. He compiled a 52-17 overall record with a perfect 36-0 mark in conference play, earning 2011 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year honors. He also coached eight all-conference players, one conference player of the year and one NCAA Division II All-American.
Additional collegiate coaching stops include California Polytechnic State University and Hope International University, where he led the HIU's men's team to a single-season program record 15 wins in 2006.
As a student-athlete, Schneider began his collegiate career at Golden West College before transferring to Loyola Marymount University. He later competed at the 1994 Olympic Festival in St. Louis.
Schneider earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Loyola Marymount in 1996 and completed a master's degree in coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2012.
A native of Saginaw, Mich., Schneider and his wife have three children: Mia, Allie and Toby.
