ATLANTA - Brenna Skalski is an outfielder from Sharpsburg, Ga. As a freshman she has been used primarily as a pinch-runner appearing in 35 games and scoring 10 times. In high school, she was a four-time all-county selection and led Northgate High School to the State Championship in 2011.
Why did you choose Georgia State?
Brenna Skalski: I loved the atmosphere and I liked living downtown. It is very cool and it is very different. There is a lot of diversity and it is very interesting, plus I loved the coaches.
What stood out most about it?
Brenna: Just the energy of the coaches. They have so much passion for their school and their program. It made me fall in love with Georgia State instantly.
How were you able to handle the transition from high school to college?
Brenna: It is a very big transition. You lose a lot of sleep because you have to spend a lot more time studying. However, having your friends and teammates around you all the time to pick you up helps you to stay on track.
What was the most difficult part of that transition?
Brenna: Trying to balance it all and trying to make time for everything. You have to get to practice on time and still find time to study, sleep, eat, shower and do everything else.
Which teammate has helped you the most?
Brenna: One of our team captains Callie (Alford). She is a senior and she is super credible. She has been here for four years and knows everything that goes on. If you have a question or need help with something, she is always there to support you and help you out.
Who is the funniest person on the team?
Brenna: Megan Litumbe for sure. She is goofy.
What is your favorite memory from your freshman campaign this season?
Brenna: When I was forced to do bus karaoke first. I was the very first person to have to sing on the bus, so I set the tone for everyone else. That was pretty fun. I sang “Part of your World” from The Little Mermaid.
What about this year's senior class will you miss the most?
Brenna: Just how fun they are. They have so much energy all the time and they just pick us up so much. They make sure that all the freshmen and the rest of the team are on track. It is going to suck really bad to lose that support.
If you could choose between a dog and a cat, what would it be?
Brenna: A dog for sure. They are more fun to run around with and play with.
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen happen in a softball game?
Brenna: Kristen (Hawkins) falling off the fence during the Florida State game. She was sitting on top and fell on the dirt. (Laughs) That was funny.
Do you have any game day rituals or superstitions?
Brenna: I have to eat a banana before the game and I always put on my Baby Lips chapstick.
