STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia State's season-long power surge continued on Friday night, scoring two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to score a 4-1 come-from-behind win over in-state rival Georgia Southern.

Georgia State (33-20, 12-10 Sun Belt) used a bases loaded single by sophomore Mandy Blackwell in the sixth, then home runs from Ivie Drake and Callie Alford in the seventh to overcome a slow start and take game one of the three game series with Georgia Southern (12-36, 4-18 Sun Belt).

Drake, among the top 15 in the NCAA in home runs, belted her 20th of the season to extend her school record. Alford followed a batter later to launch her 15th of the season and 38th of her career, extending her school record.

Katie Worley pitched her seventh complete game of the season for the Panthers and improved to 10-9 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, the Panthers quickly loaded the bases as Alford led off with a walk, followed by a Lauren Coleman single. After a walk by Megan Litumbe, Blackwell got the first two runs on the board for the Panthers.

Georgia Southern struck first in the bottom of the third as Lexi Allen singled home Emily Snider from third to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.

The Panthers missed out on a pair of early opportunities to score. In the first, Georgia State had runners on first and second with one out, but was not able to manufacture a run. The same occurred in the third with two outs with Georgia State unfortunately coming up empty.

Georgia State will close out the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader with the Eagles starting at 1 p.m. ET. Following play, the Panthers will start to prepare for the conference tournament, May 6-9, in San Marcos, Texas.
