Mobile, Ala. -- Georgia State dropped its third straight game at South Alabama, 7-2 Sunday at Stanky Field. Ryan Blanton and Jack Thompson homered for GSU (26-18, 13-6).
Georgia State remains in first place in the Sun Belt, ahead of South Alabama (29-16, 14-7) and Georgia Southern, which are tied for second.
Blanton, the sophomore center fielder, led off the game by homering down the line in right field, his sixth blast of the season, to give the Panthers the early lead.
South Alabama scored all seven runs in the third inning, aided by two errors and three walks.
Other than the two homers, South Alabama starter Jared Gates (4-2) was in control as the left-handed allowed just two runs on three hits and struck out nine in 7.2 innings.
Georgia State starter Cole Uvila (1-5) allowed seven runs but only four of them earned in 2.1 innings. Relievers Garrett Ford, Logan Barnette and Alex Hegner combined to hold the Jaguars scoreless on just four hits over the final 5.2 innings.
Thompson, a freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., hit his first homer for the Panthers with a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning.
