ATLANTA – Georgia State's women's tennis team is finishing the season strong, taking Sunday's match against No. 51 Tulane in shutout fashion, winning 4-0 to improve to 10-8. The Panthers have just two matches remaining in the regular season.
“Today showed how tough of a team we can be when we have everyone healthy,” head coach Jason Marshall said. “Niri [Rasolomalala] played great and she never let up. Tulane is a good team so I'm very pleased with how we performed.”
Georgia State (10-8) won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles with Kristin Rehse and Niri Rasolomalala. Veronika Golanova and Masa Grgan clinched the doubles point for GSU with a 6-3 win at No. 3. The pair is now 3-2 in dual play. Rasolomalala and Rehse lead the team in doubles wins with an 11-3 record.
The Panthers wasted no time taking care of business in singles. Rasolomalala defeated Tulane's Nicky Stracar 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Linn Timmermann improved to 7-3 at No. 3 singles with a straight-set win over Naz Karagoz. Rehse finished off the Green Wave at No. 4 singles, winning 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the match.
Georgia State is now 3-3 versus ranked opponents after knocking off No. 51 Tulane (15-6). The Panthers have two matches remaining before the conference tournament on April 16-19. GSU hosts Troy on April 3 at Piedmont Park and Georgia Southern at Blackburn Tennis Center on April 4.
