NEW ORLEANS – Georgia State's men's tennis team turned its fortune around with a 4-3 win against DePaul in New Orleans on Saturday. The victory ended a three-match losing streak, of which all three matches were decided by one point.
“I thought there were good learning points for our young team today,” head coach Brett Ross said. “Coming out on top of a hard-fought match makes the learning process more enjoyable and should give us confidence going into a big match tomorrow against a ranked opponent.”
DePaul took a 1-0 lead with two doubles wins. For GSU's top pair of Sofiane Chevallier and Zack Kennedy, it was the end of a nine match winning streak. Georgia State would rally in singles, however, to win the match 4-3. Jannis Koeke improved to 4-2 at No. 1 singles with his straight-set win to spark the Panthers on Saturday. Kennedy also improved his singles record to 4-2 with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles.
Georgia State (2-4) faces a tough opponent in No. 53 Tulane tomorrow in New Orleans. It will be the Panthers' second match against a ranked opponent this season with the first coming against No. 19 Vanderbilt.
