WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

* Hartwick moves to 3-0 in the battle for first place as GSU slips to 2-1

* GSU had advantages in every stat category, but made one costly defensive mistake

ONEONTA, N.Y. – In a battle of the two Sun Belt unbeatens, host Hartwick took advantage of one GSU mistake to claim a 1-0 win in a defensive match.

Both teams played outstanding defense, but the deciding moment came early in the second half (54:15) when GSU's GK and defender miscommunicated at the top of the 18-yard box and Hartwick's Wyatt Scott slowly rolled the ball those 18 yards into the empty net.

Georgia State played well and controlled much of the match, having advantages in almost every stat. GSU had a 12-10 shot advantage, a 4-2 shots on goal advantage and an 8-3 corner kick advantage as they penetrated deep into the Hartwick defense. The Panther defense was solid, allowing just those two shots on goal, but that one critical error ruined what would have been a shutout.

On a chilly day in the 40s with winds, the teams kept quite warm in competition. There were 33 fouls whistled (18 on GSU, 15 on Hartwick) with two yellow cards on Hartwick and one on GSU.

Hartwick improves to 7-4-3 and 3-0 in the Sun Belt, going 3-0-1 in its last four matches. The Hawks posted their fifth shutout performance of the season.

Georgia State slips to 6-7 and 2-1 in the Sun Belt, getting shut out in back-to-back games after having ranked in the top 10 in scoring most of the season.

Georgia State returns to Atlanta for a Tuesday home match with UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. and a Saturday Senior Day home contest with Sun Belt foe Howard at  2 p.m.
