ATLANTA – After defeating Bethune-Cookman in five sets on Friday morning, Georgia State's volleyball team was swept by North Florida in its second match of the Jax Marriott Classic.
“We took a step in the right direction today,” head coach Sally Polhamus said. “We showed grit in that five-set win against a competitive Bethune-Cookman team. Tomorrow, we get the opportunity to see how we compete against Jacksonville.”
NOTING THE PANTHERS…
- GSU outhit B-CU .238-.129 in the first match.
- Junior Deidra Bohannon recorded 15 kills in the first match and 11 in the second to increase her total to 79 on the season which is most on the team.
In the first match of the day, Georgia State lost the first set 16-25 before winning the second set 25-14 and the third 25-22. The Wildcats forced a fifth set with their 25-21 win in the fourth. In the fifth, the Panthers shut the door with a 15-12 win.
Junior Eliza Zachary hit .421 with 12 kills and had two total blocks while freshman Kaylyn Torain had 10 kills on .450 hitting with five total blocks. Senior Andrea' Ezell led Georgia State in blocks with six and also had a season-high six kills. Fellow senior Andrea Book hit .375 with four kills while junior Gabby Serafin had 14 digs for the Panthers.
The second match didn't go as well as the first for the Panthers. North Florida took the match 25-22, 25-16, and 25-21. Bohannon led the Panthers with 11 kills, but the Ospreys outhit GSU .294-.150.
Georgia State will play its third and final match of the Jax Marriott Classic on Saturday against Jacksonville at 5 p.m.
