ORLANDO - The No. 68 Georgia State men's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 58 UCF in a four and half hour match. Three of the six singles matches went to three sets.
Georgia State (6-8) lost two of those three three-set matches to the Knights, who move to 6-1 this season. Junior Sofiane Chevallier was the lone Panther to win his three-set match, defeating Chris Barrus 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. Senior Thomas Cook lost to Matthew Gladstone 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Eric Baum, at No. 5 singles, lost to Inaki Espindola 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Freshman Jannis Koeke won his match at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3 versus Amar Hromic. Freshman Felipe Jaworski also won his match at No. 6 singles against Jesse Flores 6-3, 6-1. Senior Robert Schulze, at No. 3 singles, lost to Francesc Aulina 6-4, 6-4.
The Panthers dropped the doubles point in two close matches. At No. 2 doubles, Baum and Valentin Horvat lost to Gladstone and Aulina 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Koeke and Cook lost to Espindola and Barrus 8-7. Schulze and Chevallier did not finish their match at No. 1 doubles.
Georgia State went 1-1 over the weekend in Florida. GSU defeated Stetson on Friday. The Panthers will return to Atlanta to host No. 60 UNCW Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Piedmont Park.
