LUBBOCK, Texas – The Georgia State women's tennis team fell to No. 19 Texas Tech 5-2, but senior Abigail Tere-Apisah remained undefeated in singles playing, defeating another ranked opponent.
No. 10 Tere-Apisah defeated No. 115 Kenna Kilgo 6-1, 7-5. Tere-Apisah is now 7-0 in single splay this season. In doubles, she and Masa Grgan, the No. 33 team in the country, battled with the No. 37 doubles team of Samantha Adams and Kilgo and won 8-7. The Panther duo is 6-1 this season.
Junior Chaimaa Roudami picked up the other point for the Panthers, winning at No. 6 singles over Samantha Czarniak Rego 3-6, 7-5, 1-0. Junior Masa Grgan also went three close sets, but Grgan didn't win the third set tiebreaker. She lost to Rashmi Teltumbde 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 1-0.
At No. 3 singles, Marcia Tere-Apisah lost to No. 110 Nikki Sanders 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Linn Timmermann lost to another Lynn, Lynn Kiro, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Maryna Kozachenko fell to Samantha Adams 6-0, 6-3.
At No. 2 doubles, Tarani Kamoe and Marcia Tere-Apisah lost to Sanders and Teltumbde 8-5, while at No. 3 doubles Roudami and Timmermann lost to Kiro and Sarah Toti 8-1.
The Panthers are now 2-5, but four of those five losses have come to ranked teams. Georgia State will return home to face Kennesaw State Friday at 1 p.m. at the Atlanta Athletic Club. GSU will also host Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
