ATLANTA — Georgia State softball seniors Audrey Mason and Whitney Phillips earned their degrees from Georgia State University at the graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 11.
Both student-athletes were honored with academic awards during the spring semester. A speech major, Mason finished the year with a 3.92 GPA to earn a spot on the Dean's List, while Phillips made a 3.43 GPA while studying marketing to go on the AD's honor roll.
Mason played in more than 200 games in a Panther uniform while playing in the outfield. The Kennesaw, Ga. native was named to the All-CAA second team in both 2010 and 2011 as well as the conference All-Rookie team in 2010. With seven triples in her career, Mason ranks in the top-10 in the school record books.
Phillips leaves Georgia State as a one of the Panthers' most prolific base stealers. A native of Stockbridge, Ga., Phillips has stolen 41 bases in four years, which is fifth in GSU history. The second baseman was named to the CAA All-Rookie team in 2010.
The two graduates helped the Panther softball team to above a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the semester. The team finished the 2013 season with a record of 36-19, including a 13-8 CAA mark in their final season in the conference.
