Win Streak to 10-games as Softball Sweeps Delaware

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — A pair of wins on the final home games of the season extend Georgia State's winning-streak to 10 games as the Panthers defeated Delaware 8-0 and 6-4 at the Heck Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The winning streak is the second-longest in program history. The third CAA sweep of the season also gives Georgia State seven consecutive conference wins.

Jessica Clifton has been dialed in as of late, going 8-for-11 with six RBIs and two runs scored in the series against Delaware. Clifton had the walk-off single that gave the Panthers a 6-5 win in the opener.

Game 1: GSU 8, Delaware 0 (6 innings)

Clifton went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and finished just a double shy of hitting for the cycle. The junior center fielder hit a three-run home run in the first and led off the third inning with a triple.

After Taylor Anderson and Brenna Morrissey opened the first inning with back-to-back singles, Clifton sent a pitch over the fence in left field to provide an early 3-0 lead for Georgia State.

Lauren Coleman, Ashley Christy and Audrey Mason each hit run-scoring singles in the third inning to extend the GSU lead to 6-0. Coleman was 2-for-2 in the game with a pair of RBIs.

In the sixth inning, Coleman added another RBI single to score Morrissey. Four walks in the inning, including one with the bases loaded by MeQuilla Franklin enacted the run-rule. The run-rule victory is the Panthers' third in the past five games.

Katie Worley held the Blue Hens to only three hits to earn her fourth complete game shutout of the season. She struck out four Delaware batters in 6.0 innings pitched and did not allow a walk.

Callie Alford drew three of the Panthers' seven walks in the game and scored two runs. Audrey Mason also had two hits in the game, one of three GSU student-athletes with a multi-hit effort.

Game 2: GSU 4, Delaware 2

Georgia State scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anderson hit a bases loaded RBI single and Clifton roped a two-run double down the left field line. Morrissey also had an RBI groundout. Clifton finished with another multi-hit and multi-RBI game.

Delaware scored an unearned run with a two-out single in the top of the second inning. Shelby Jones hit a solo home run to add another run for the Blue Hens in the sixth.

Kaitlyn Medlam tossed her 14th complete game of the season and held the Blue Hens to two runs on six hits. The Panthers were outhit by the Blue Hens by a margin of 6 to 4 and both sides committed an error.

The Panthers closed out the home portion of the 2013 schedule with a record of (19-7) at the Heck Softball Complex. GSU will finish the season by playing their final ever CAA series at James Madison on May 3-4.
