Brown?s Home Run Lifts Softball Over UNCW 1-0

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — Jordan Brown struck a solo home run in the fourth inning to account for the only scoring for either team as Georgia State (27-15, 7-4) defeated UNCW 1-0 and win the conference series at the Heck Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Brown had a career day, going 3-for-3 at the plate, including the second homerun of her career.

The Panthers were outhit in the contest 8-5 but was able to eliminate three Seahawk baserunners on a pair of outfield assists from Jessica Clifton and a runner picked-off first by Callie Alford.

Kaitlyn Medlam logged her third shutout and picked up her 15th win. The junior allowed eight hits but did not surrender a run and only one walk.

Lauren Coleman drew her 39th walk of the season, which is four away from the single-season school record of 43 set back in 2007 by Danielle Roddy.

GSU has now guaranteed at least a finish of .500 for the season. The Panthers return to action on Thursday when the host Samford in a doubleheader in Panthersville.
