Softball Earns 20th Victory with 3-1 Win at UTC

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Georgia State earned its 20th victory of the 2013 season with a 3-1 win over Chattanooga at Frost Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers (20-9) opened the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Callie Alford hit an RBI single to plate Taylor Anderson, who had reached on an error. With Alford at third and Clifton on first, GSU successfully executed a double steal that allowed Alford to come home to score.

In the top of the sixth inning, GSU added another run on a Jessica Clifton RBI single, which scored Alford from third base. Alford finished with two hits in the game and scored two runs.

Kaitlyn Medlam (10-3) threw her eighth complete game of the season, holding Chattanooga to only one run on four hits and a single walk.

The win is the Panthers' fifth consecutive victory and 14th in the last 16 games.

Georgia State drew seven walks in the contest, including two each by Paige Nowacki and Lauren Coleman. The Panthers stranded 13 base runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the fourth.

Chattanooga's (18-16) lone run of the game came on a solo home run by Kasey Tydingco to lead off the second inning. The Lady Mocs committed three errors in the contest.

GSU travels to Hempstead, N.Y. for their first CAA road series of the year against defending conference champions Hofstra on March 29-30.
