Record Tying Home Run Lifts Softball Over KSU, 1-0

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — Paige Nowacki hit the game-winning home run and Katie Worley threw the second shutout of her career to lead Georgia State (19-8) past Kennesaw State 1-0 at the Heck Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Nowacki's home run, in GSU's final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, is her 12th of the season and the 32nd of her career. That blast ties the senior with former teammate Lauren Jones for the most home runs hit in program history. The win is Georgia State's 13th in the last 15 games.

Worley (8-5) allowed only three hits and no walks over the course of the game. The freshman also struck out four Owl batters.

Both sides were held to only three hits and all were singles, except for Nowacki's late-inning stroke over the fence.

Kennesaw State starter Amanda Henderson had a no-hitter going through four innings before being relieved by Monica Vickery (2-1) , who allowed all three Panther hits to suffer the loss.

The Owls (23-6) threatened in the top of the seventh, with two base runners on a pair of GSU errors, before Worley induced a few key fly balls to complete the shutout.

Kennesaw State's head coach Scott Whitlock was honored before the game, threw out the first pitch and was presented with a gift from head coach Roger Kincaid and the GSU softball program. Whitlock will retire after the end of this season as one of the most-decorated softball coaches in the nation.

The Panthers travel to Chattanooga this Wednesday to take on the Mocs at 5:00 pm. GSU then travels to Hempstead, N.Y. for a CAA series against Hofstra. Georgia State and Kennesaw State will play again next Tuesday at KSU's Bailey Park in Kennesaw.
