Texas State Snaps Volleyball's Four Match Win Streak

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Georgia State volleyball team had its four match win streak snapped by Texas State Saturday night with a 3-1 loss to the Bobcats.

The Bobcats (18-11, 8-6 Sun Belt) defeated the Panthers (8-18, 4-9) 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-12. 

 For the second time this weekend, sophomore Dede Bohannon led Georgia State in scoring. In Saturday's match, Bohannon had 13 kills. Sophomore Sydney Hunsley had three service aces, in addition to her nine kills. Sophomore Eliza Zachary also had nine kills. 

Texas State had a blistering start to match, leading 17-5 in the first set. Georgia State rallied, bringing the score within five at 20-15. It wasn't enough, however, and Texas State won 25-18.

"Still very proud of the girl and the weekend that we had," head coach Tami Audia said. "Of course we wanted to come home 2-0, but we are still considering this weekend a win by splitting. We have some polishing to do and are excited to be home this weekend."

The two teams stayed even early in the second, tying the score at 7-all. Texas State then won six straight points to lead 13-7. Georgia State then responded with its own six point run, tying it at 13. Georgia State then started pull away, winning five of the six last points of the set.

Similar to the first set, Texas State took an early lead and kept Georgia State at bay for the entirety of the set. Georgia State got the score within four a 20-16, but Texas State went on a 5-2 run to close out the set. 

The final set of the match was all Texas State. The Bobcats kept the Panthers under 15 points in the final set, winning 25-12. 

Overall, GSU hit .126 and had eight total team blocks. Meanwhile, Texas State hit .256 and had nine total team blocks. 

After three straight road matches, Georgia State will return home for a pair of home matches. The Panthers will host UALR Fri., Nov. 8, and Arkansas State Sat., Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. for both of the home contests.
