ATLANTA - The Georgia State volleyball team lost in three sets to Texas State on Sunday.
The Bobcats (13-7, 3-1 Sun Belt) defeated the Panthers (5-14, 0-5) 25-14, 25-8, 25-16.
Sophomore Eliza Zachary led the Panthers in scoring with seven kills. She also had one solo block and one block assist.Redshirt sophomore Kitan Ajanaku had five kills, while sophomore Sydney Hunsley and freshman Kristina Stinson both had four kills each. Stinson hit .231 with only one error on 13 attempts.
Senior Emily Averbeck had 10 digs, while freshman Molly Shonk had six. The team had four total blocks on the day.
The first set remained relatively close, up until 14-14. After that, the Bobcats slowly took over and went on a 11-2 run to finish out the first set. The second set was all Texas State, as they rushed out to a 10-3 lead, followed by a 15-5 run to finish out the second set. In the third, the Panthers managed a mini-run in the middle of the set to bring the score to 7-13, but again, Texas State was too much for the Panthers and they won the third 25-14.
Texas State's Shelby Vas Matt led all scorers with 11 kills. The Bobcats hit .364 and had six total team blocks.
Georgia State will have a few well-deserved days off before hitting the road for three consecutive matches. The Panthers' next match will be Fri., Oct. 11, at Troy.
