ATLANTA--Georgia State student-athletes maintained a combined cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 for the eighth consecutive semester, and 158 Panthers earned academic honors for the recently completed spring semester.
The GSU student-athlete population posted a semester GPA of 2.94 for the spring, including nine teams over 3.0, putting the Panthers' cumulative GPA at 3.03.
An all-time high 31 student-athletes earned Georgia State's highest academic distinction by making the President's List, signifying a semester GPA of 4.0 or higher with at least nine credit hours. That impressive group includes three-time Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Year Charlotte Lorentzen, All-CAA soccer players Chris Locandro and Jewel Evans, all-conference tennis player Victor Valente and football/baseball standout Mark Hogan.
Combined with 17 honorees last fall, Georgia State boasts 48 student-athletes on the President's List during the 2011-12 year. Five individuals reached President's List status for both the fall and spring: Valente and tennis teammate Lucas Santana, as well as softball players Emily Althafer, Christina Reed and Taylor Scarpantonio.
Another 52 student-athletes earned Dean's List recognition for the spring, signifying a semester GPA of at least 3.5, and an additional 75 Panthers were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with a semester or cumulative GPA of at least 3.2. All individuals earning academic honors are listed below.
The women's cross country team combined for the highest semester GPA at 3.53, while the soccer team was the best men's program at 3.27. The women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's track and volleyball teams also topped 3.0 for the spring semester.
Georgia State Athletics also celebrated 46 degree candidates at the spring Commencement exercises, highlighted by soccer standout Bri Cagle, who received the Kell Award for the highest grade point average in the graduating class.
