Nowacki?s Homers Help Softball Sweep UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC — Paige Nowacki hit a pair of two-run home runs to lead Georgia State (28-11, 6-3) to a 4-1 win over UNCW, completing a three-game CAA series sweep at Boseman Field Saturday afternoon.

Nowacki hit her sixth and seventh long balls of the season in the first and sixth innings. They scored Lauren Coleman and Cassie Boese, who was pinch running for Coleman, who reach both times on walks.

With two in the final game, Georgia State hit a total of six home runs in the series and have now belted 30 in 2012.

Kaitlyn Medlam (10-3) struck out a career-high 13 Seahawk batters en route to the three-hit complete game victory. The lone UNCW run came on a solo homer by catcher Kimmie Stewart in the third inning.

Seahawks starter Casey Rowland (1-16) took the loss and also threw a complete game while holding the Panthers to five hits.

Carrie Williams hit a pair of singles for a total of five hits on the series. Ashley Christy accounted for the fifth Panther hit in the game.

The win extends the Panthers season-high winning streak to eight games. During the streak, GSU has outscored their opponents 43-4, while recording five shutouts.

After losing the first three conference games of the year, GSU has now won six consecutive CAA games in sweeping a pair of series over Towson and UNCW.

Georgia State will put their winning streak to the test when they visit cross-town rival Georgia Tech this Wednesday, April 11 at 5 p.m.
