James Madison 3-1 Win Spoils Softball Senior Day

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — Georgia State softball (34-15, 11-6) fell to James Madison (26-24, 12-5) 3-1 Sunday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 250 at the Robert E. Heck Softball complex.

Eight members of the GSU senior class were honored prior to the start of the contest and six of the seniors were included in the starting lineup.

The Panthers out hit the Dukes 9-6, but stranded ten runners on base. Brenna Morrissey, Chelsea Sparks and Christina Reed each had two hits.

Sparks' RBI single in the fourth inning produced the lone run for the Panthers. Megan Kallatsa scored on the hit after reaching on a single to start the inning.

The Dukes scored runs in the second, third and fifth innings on their way to the series win. Megan Shinaberry homered to lead off the second.

Kaitlyn Medlam suffered only her fourth loss of the season after allowing two runs on four hits in 4.0 innings pitched. Erin Collins contributed 3.0 innings of relief.

Georgia State will play their final regular season series at George Mason in Fairfax, Va., next weekend May 4-5. The Panthers also clinched their sixth consecutive berth in the postseason conference.
