Homers by Alford and Christy Give Softball 6-1 Win

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — A pair of three-run home runs by Callie Alford and Ashley Christy gave Georgia State (31-12, 9-3) a 6-1 win over Drexel (18-19, 3-8) to extend the Panthers' CAA winning streak to nine games Sunday afternoon at the Robert E. Softball Complex.

Alford hit her sixth home run of the season after Brenna Morrissey and Lauren Coleman singled. Christy's long ball, her second of 2012, came with two out and two on in the fourth inning.

Both Christy and Alford finished the game with a pair of hits, including a double by Alford. Christy finishes the Drexel series with seven hits and seven RBI.

The homers give the Panthers 35 on the season, which is the seventh most in school history and only one away from the 36 hit in 1999 as the sixth most.

Kaitlyn Medlam picked up her eleventh win of the season after allowing just one unearned run on three hits during her six innings pitched. Emily Clay pitched another perfect seventh inning, and still has not allowed a hit in four appearances.

Drexel loaded the bases with no out in the fourth, but was limited to only a single unearned run as Medlam struck out two to strand a pair. The Dragons also stranded runners at the corners in the second inning.

A total of 19 GSU players saw the field with a number of defensive changes in the later innings.

Georgia State next visits the second ranked team in the nation when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play No. 2 Alabama Tues., April 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
