3-2 Loss at Tech Halts Softball?s Winning Streak

ATLANTA — Georgia State softball (28-12) had their eight game winning streak snapped after a 3-2 loss to Georgia Tech (30-16) on Mewborn Field Wednesday afternoon.

Georgia Tech scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits, including a two-run home run by left-fielder Shannon Bear.

Paige Nowacki answered with a solo home run — her eighth of the season — over the scoreboard to lead off the second inning. Nowacki scored both runs for GSU in the contest.

With the bases loaded in the fourth, Carrie Williams lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. Nowacki tagged and scored from third base to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to a run.

After allowing the three runs in the first inning, McCall Langford settled down allowing five more hits and no runs over the next five innings as she recorded her fourth complete game of the season. Langford still took the loss to drop her record to 7-5 in 2012.

Both teams entered the games with lengthy winning streaks. The Panthers had their eight game streak snapped and the Yellow Jackets extended their consecutive victories to eleven.

Georgia State won the first matchup this season with a 2-1 win over the Yellow Jackets. Brenna Morrissey's six inning solo home run was the difference in the game, which came back on Feb. 29 in Panthersville.
