Errors Cost Softball in Third Loss to Hofstra

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. — Despite not allowing an earned run, Georgia State (20-11, 0-3) lost the final game of the CAA opening series to Hofstra (8-12, 3-0) by a count of 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Robert E. Heck Softball Complex.

Four Panther errors in the ball game, including three at third base, allowed the four Pride runs to score on five hits.

The big blow was a three run home run by the Pride's D.J. Slugh in the second inning. Hofstra scored their final run of the ball game in the top of the seventh on two errors and no hits.

Brenna Morrissey hit her third home run of the season during the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid the shutout. The only other Panther hit in the ball game was a Lauren Coleman single in the second inning.

Starter Alana Thomas (7-4) took the loss after giving up three unearned runs in 3.1 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, McCall Langford allowed only two hits in her 3.2 innings.

Georgia State now falls into a five game losing streak after starting the season without losing more than two in a row. Conversely, Hofstra has now won four consecutive contests.

After only turning one double play in the first 26 games of the season, the Panthers have now recorded four double plays in the past four games, for a total of five.

The Panthers host another CAA series, this time against Towson on March 31-April 1. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and finish with a noon game on Sunday.
