Softball Drops Game to No. 11 Georgia in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia State softball (20-8) fell to the #11 Georgia Bulldogs (24-5) 6-0 Wendesday night at Jack Turner Softball Complex.

The Bulldogs piled on for six runs on eleven hits, including four for extra bases. Meanwhile, the Panthers were held to just one hit, a single by Jessica Clifton in the first inning.

Georgia State was also held scoreless for the first time all season. The team falls to 1-2 vs. ranked teams this season and 0-2 against SEC opponents. The Panthers lost 9-1 to No. 19 Auburn in Panthersville on Feb. 22.

The Panthers did record two defensive double plays in the game to bring their total to three on the season. Brenna Morrsissey was the catalyst in both, making one great play to dive for a sinking line drive and double the runner off first to end the sixth inning.

Georgia State starter Kaitlyn Medlam lasted 4.0 innings and gave up four runs. Medlam took the loss and drops to 7-2 on the season. Starters Alana Thomas and McCall Langford both pitched an inning of relief.

Georgia jumped on the board in the first inning after Ashley Pauly doubled to left field and Tess Sito singled to score Pauly. Medlam buckled down to strike out two potent bats in Kristen Sandberg and Ashley Razey and retire the Bulldogs in the inning.

Pauly and Sandberg hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to swell the Georgia lead to 4-0. Sito added a two-RBI single in the fifth to bring the game to its final score.

Bulldog starter Erin Arevalo got the win after going 4.0 strong innings. Sito pitched the remaining 3.0 innings of relief without allowing a hit to the Panthers.

Georgia State starts the CAA schedule this Saturday by hosting a doubleheader against Hofstra. The first game will start at noon with the second to follow at 2 p.m.
