Softball Downs Chattanooga 5-1, Game 2 Delayed

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. --  Jessica Clifton and Audrey Mason both supplied two-RBI hits to propel Georgia State (5-2) past the Chattanooga Lady Mocs (4-3) Saturday morning at the Panther Invitational.

In the top of the second inning, Clifton's double drove in Chelsea Sparks and Brenna Morrissey who had both reached on singles.

A triple off the bat of Mason in the fifth inning scored Paige Nowacki and Callie Alford who reach on walks. Carrie Williams laid down a sacrifice bunt that brought home Mason and gave GSU a 5-1 lead.

Georgia State starter Alana Thomas threw a complete game and improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing only one run on five hits. Chattanooga's lone run came in the third inning off of back-to-back two-out hits by Kati Dutton and Michelle Fuzzard.

Chattanooga starter Taylor Deason lasted 5.0 innings and gave up all five Panther runs on seven hits and five walks. Fuzzard pitched 2.0 innings in relief, only surrendering two hits.

The fourth game of the day between Georgia State and Eastern Illinois was been delayed due to rain and will be made up Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

The tentative schedule for Day 2 of the tournament will move the Chattanooga vs. Eastern Illinois game to start at 12:15 p.m. and the Georgia State vs. IUPUI contest is expected to begin at 2:30 p.m.
