Spring Teams Showcase New GSU Logos and Script

ATLANTA, Ga. -- In a continued effort to integrate the Georgia State brand, the GSU baseball and softball teams have unveiled new uniforms this spring. These jerseys, pants and caps now showcase the new GSU logos and new Panthers script.

The two squads are the first to wear the new logos that were announced at the Sept. 2 Countdown to Football event and will be utilized for the inaugural football season. All Georgia State teams will utilize the new logo and script with their next order.

The baseball team debuted its new uniforms in the season-opening series against Florida State. They sport black jerseys with the downward GSU logo on the chest. Their caps have the new downward GSU logo as well the team's warm up tops.

"It is an exciting time to be a part of Georgia State athletics," commented head baseball coach Greg Frady. "With a new direction, led by President Mark Becker and our Director of Athletics, Cheryl L. Levick, our new logo and script really create the image that we want to portray on the field."

The softball team wore its new uniforms for the first time against UNC Wilmington on March 27. These Panthers chose white jerseys with the Panthers script written in blue with black outline.  Their black pants have the new Georgia State text logo on the hip and the helmets have the downward GSU logo.

"We love them," said junior softball player Lauren Jones. "They are by far the most stylish we've had. We love the cursive writing on the front and how well the colors blend. Black, royal blue and white work well together."

"We really like having Panthers on the front," said senior softball player Rachel Cunningham. "We also love the black accent to complement the blue and white. We were all so excited to get them before the UNCW game."

The new uniforms are just the latest step in the school and athletic department's commitment to make the GSU brand more consistent and recognizable. The new logos are anticipated to continue to grow the GSU licensing program, which has increased for six consecutive years. Last year (2008-09), the program set a new record and during the last six years, royalties have increased 115 percent.

"We wanted to make sure our new branding initiative would accommodate the needs of all of our sports programs," said Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director James Greenwell. "I have seen so many times in the past where sports with unique needs like baseball and softball are an afterthought. The stacked GSU and the script Panthers are terrific marks that will serve our baseball and softball programs for years to come."

For fans attending the football spring game on Saturday, it will be the first opportunity to see the Panthers' uniforms for the inaugural 2010 season under Coach Bill Curry.
