GSU Handles Dartmouth, 11-2

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Three Georgia State batters had three or more RBI and senior Elizabeth Thomas pitched a complete game four hitter as the Panthers handled Dartmouth, 11-2, in six innings at the Buzz Classic.

After junior Rebecca Roles knocked a single to right field to score Lauren Jones and Chelsey Sparks in the first inning, Dartmouth's Noelle Ramirez crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence to tie the game at two.

However, it would be all Panthers from then on out as GSU scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and fourth in the sixth.

In the third, Roles drove in another run on a ground out and junior Tiffany Bess doubled to right center scoring Rachel Cunningham and Lily Skelton. A Skelton sacrifice fly and a Cunningham single pushed the lead to 7-2 after four.

In the sixth, Skelton continued her torrid hitting streak as she bashed her third home run in two days and fifth on the season, scoring Lauren Jones and Sparks. The Panthers scored their final run of the game on a Bess fielder's choice, scoring Cunningham.

Leading the way for GSU were Skelton, who went 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored, Roles, who was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Bess, who had three RBI. Sparks went 2-for-3 and scored three runs, while Cunningham was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Skelton is hitting .562 over her last six games and has a slugging percentage of 1.125 with three homers and 11 RBI. Roles, after starting off the season batting .148, has hit .333 over her last six games.

Over the last couple of days, several Panthers have moved up the Georgia State career lists. Senior Danielle Roddy is now second on Georgia State's all-time list for runs scored with 139 on her career. Cunningham is now fifth on the GSU career RBI list with 91. Skelton, with 21 home runs, is now fifth in Panthers' history.

GSU showed a knack for putting the ball in play against the Big Green as they pounded out 13 hits while striking out only once.

Ramirez was the lone offensive spark for the Big Green with a two-run home run.

Picking up the win for GSU was Thomas (2-1), who pitched six innings allowing only two runs, both in the first inning, on four hits, while walking one batter. Suffering the loss was Evan Gray (0-1), who surrendered 11 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits.

Georgia State (12-4) will face Western Kentucky in tomorrow's finale at 1 p.m.
