Softball Bows After Week Layoff, 6-1

ATLANTA, Ga. -- On the strength of a complete game and two-run homer from Kennesaw State pitcher Jessica Cross, the Owls defeated Georgia State, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Heck Field after a week layoff for the Panthers.

Cross (8-3) pitched all seven innings, allowing only three hits and one run while also going 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer and two RBI. Karlie Gillam went 2-for-3 with a three-run double. In a losing effort junior Tiffany Bess went 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Panthers. Senior Rachel Cunningham had the only other hit for GSU.

Junior Heather Lowry picked up the loss allowing two runs on five hits in five innings of action. Freshman McCall Langford allowed a rare four runs in two innings of relief, upping her 1.28 season ERA.

The Panthers got on the board first after a Bess double to right center scored Cunningham after the senior doubled to left field.

It was all Kennesaw from there on out however, as the Owls scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

In the fourth, Lowry (2-3) gave up a two-run homer to Cross to give the Owls a 2-1 lead. A Gillam three-run double highlighted a four-run sixth inning off GSU's Langford to stretch the KSU lead to 6-1.

GSU (16-9) returns to action this weekend as it opens the CAA portion of its schedule when it travels to UNC Wilmington for a three-game set. All games will be available via livestats.
