Auburn, Ala. (February 11, 2009) The Georgia State softball team fell 6-0 to the Auburn Tigers as Auburn centerfielder Myesha Finney hit a 3-run homer at the bottom of the fourth inning to contribute to the Tiger win. The Panthers fall to 0-3 on the season and Auburn to 6-1.
Senior Holly Willis, juniors Danielle Roddy and Rachel Cunningham, and sophomore Rebecca Roles recorded a single hit each for a Panther total of four hits. Despite the shutout, the Tigers only out-hit the Panthers by a single hit.
The Panthers started out aggressive and held the score to an even 0-0 for the first 3.5 innings.
There was one error on the day on Tigers Pitcher Anna Thompson that allowed Willis to reach first base.
Starting pitcher Madi Gore took the loss and pitched for 3.2 innings, allowing 2 hits. Senior hurler Chelsey Morgan also took the mound before rookie Erin Collins finished out the game.
The Panthers are back in action this weekend as they welcome the University of Missouri, University of Evansville, and Virginia Tech for the First Pitch Classic. Georgia State meets up with Evansville at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday for the Panthers' first game of the tournament. Livestats will be available throughout the day at www.georgiastatesports.com.
