W Tennis Blanks Emory, 7-0

ATLANTA, Ga.. (Feb. 15, 2008) The Georgia State women's tennis team snapped a two-game losing streak, defeating Emory 7-0 Friday evening, improving its record to 4-5.

 

The Panthers swept the doubles point with partners Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova defeating Sabra Rogers and Lorne McManigle 8-1 to win their fifth doubles match of the season, improving to 5-2. Rachel Malina and Dariana Kozmina blanked Tshema Nash and Leah Seyburn 8-1 at No. 2 while Kiara Powell and Kiera Strickland improved to 4-2 with an 8-3 win over Emily Wein and Sara Vrabec at No. 3.

 

Georgia State continued its rhythm in singles competition with each player cruising past its opponent. The Eagles' Vrabec pushed her match to three sets before eventually falling to Strickland 10-4 in a tiebreaker at No. 6.

 

The women's tennis squad returns to action Feb. 23 as they travel to Newport News, Va. to compete against conference rival, Old Dominion, at 9 a.m.
