Panthers Win Second in a Row

ATLANTA

(02/03/07) - Georgia State women's tennis won its second dual match this weekend, 6-1, against Louisiana Monroe on Saturday afternoon at the Piedmont Park Tennis Center. The Panthers' win placed them at .500 (2-2) on the season, as they won the doubles point and all but one singles match.

Each Panthers' duo dominated their opponents, only allowing a combined four points from the Warhawks' doubles tandems. Rachel Malina (Decatur, Ga.) and Emma Stahl-Johansson (Sweden) clinched the doubles point for the Panthers with an 8-1 victory.

Freshman Stahl-Johansson gained the first singles point for State, winning her first collegiate dual match in straight sets. Martina Nitkova (Vratimov, Czech Republic) placed the Panthers at a 3-0 advantage and Dariana Kozmina (Kharkiv, Ukraine) clinched the win for State with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Warhawks' Noelia Leon. Malina and Kiera Stickland (Roswell, Ga.) also won their matches in straight sets over their respective opponents.

The Panthers will travel to Statesboro, Ga. for a dual match up with Georgia Southern on February 10 at noon.
