The women's tennis team won for the fifth time in its last six matches with a 7-0 win at Emory in Atlanta on Friday afternoon.
Coach Lisa Belcher's squad posted wins in all six of the singles matches and took two of the three doubles matches over the defending national Division III champs and current No. 1 ranked team in that division.
State, still playing without its injured No. 1 player, moved everyone up a spot in the lineup. Martina Nitkova was perfect at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 perfect win over Richell Marasigan. At No. 2, Rachel Malina also quickly rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The other singles winners were Emma Stahl-Johansson, Mateja Podgorsek, Kiera Strickland, and Brittany Smith.
The doubles team of Nitkova and Kiera Strickland posted an 8-1 win in its doubles match with Podgorsek and Smith adding an 8-3 win in doubles.
The 5-3 Panthers will play host to Samford of the Ohio Valley Conference at Noon on Saturday at the Piedmont Tennis Center.
