Orlando, Fla. (01/20/07) - Georgia State women's tennis junior Kiera Strickland (Roswell, Ga.) won her second singles match of the tournament at the UCF Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. Junior Rachel Malina picked up her first win of the season with a victory in the super tiebreaker over Auburn University Montgomery's Hannah Huervers.
The Panthers opened the day with doubles action and all three doubles tandems fell in their respective matches. Sophomores Dariana Kozmina (Kharkiv, Ukraine) and Martina Nitkova (Vratimov, Czech Republic) dropped a hard fought decision 8-6 in Flight A.
In other singles action, Kozmina and sophomore Mateja Podgorsek (Domzale, Slovenia) were downed in their respective super tiebreakers, each winning the second set of the match. Nitkova, freshman Emma Stahl-Johansson (Sodertalje, Sweden), and sophomore Brittany Smith (Toronto, Ontario) fell in straight sets to their opponents.
The UCF Invitational will conclude for the Panthers with matches on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
