Women's tennis advances to quarterfinals at the UTC Baras Collegiate Fall Classic
Hixson, Tenn. (09/22/06) ? The Georgia State women's tennis players won their respective matches in the first two rounds to advance to the quarterfinals at the Steve Baras Collegiate Fall Classic in Hixson, Tenn on Friday.
State sent five of its players ? juniors Rachel Malina and Kiera Strickland, sophomores Dariana Kozmina and Martina Nitkova, and freshman Emma Stahl-Johannson to compete this weekend. All five had advanced to the third round of the main draw.
Doubles action will begin Saturday morning with the following pairs: Kozmina and Nitkova, Malina and Stahl-Johannson, and Strickland teaming with Yuliya Zalenskaya from North Alabama.
The tournament is hosted by the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and comprised of top tennis programs from around the southeast. The classic includes three singles and two doubles flights.
Schools participating include: Alabama-Huntsville, Arkansas, Austin Peay State, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Monroe, Mercer, Morehead State, Murray State, North Alabama, Samford, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, Tennessee-Martin, Alabama-Birmingham, UNC Asheville, Western Kentucky and hosts Chattanooga.
