ATLANTA – A total of 37 current and former Panther student-athletes were scheduled to walk across the stage Saturday as a part of Georgia State's Spring Commencement at the Georgia Dome. Another 27 student-athletes are expected to graduate this summer as they finish up their degrees.
The ceremony takes place at 1 p.m. in the Georgia Dome.
Sue Desmond-Hellmann, chief executive officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will deliver the keynote address.
Nine football players, who led the Panthers to their first AutoNation Cure Bowl and a 34-7 win over Georgia Southern last December will graduate on Saturday. Another eight football players are expected to graduate this summer.
Also among the highlights will be six baseball players on Saturday who will be unable to attend as the Panthers are currently playing at Texas State. Beach volleyball will also have two graduate Saturday with four more expected this summer. That team, led by head coach Beth Van Fleet, is currently competing for a NCAA Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala.
All four men's basketball seniors who led Georgia State on its magical run just over a year ago will also be graduating with two on Saturday and two more expected this summer.
Men's golfer JJ Grey, who was named Sun Belt Golfer of the Year on Thursday, will also walk across stage on Saturday.
