Women’s Basketball Head Coach Gene Hill Resigns

ATLANTA — Georgia State athletics announced a change in leadership for women's basketball program on Wednesday.

After eight seasons with the Panthers, head coach Gene Hill has resigned.

Georgia State Athletics and Administration is appreciative of the dedication and impact Hill has had on the women's basketball program.

"Gene Hill is an outstanding coach and person," Georgia State Director of Athletics Charlie Cobb said. "We are greatly appreciative of his tenure leading our program."

Hill was named the 11th head coach in Georgia State history in 2018. During his tenure, he compiled a 102-135 overall record, highlighted by a notable 2025 campaign that propelled the Panthers to a historic run at the Sun Belt Championship. Georgia State advanced to the third round of the tournament for the first time in program history.

Hill's tenure produced several individual achievements, including five All-Conference selections, a Freshman of the Year and a Newcomer of the Year accolades, along with three student-athletes who surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone.

A national search for Georgia State's next head coach begins immediately.

"We look forward to hiring the next head coach and staff to develop our players and build a winning program." Cobb said.
