ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State fell to Texas State, 12-3, Sunday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex to conclude the weekend series.
The Panthers move to 13-16 overall and 2-7 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Texas State improves to 19-8 and 6-3 in the conference.
Texas State took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run and added another run in the third before extending the advantage in the middle innings. The Bobcats scored two runs in the fourth and added another in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead.
The game broke open in the sixth inning as Texas State scored four runs, taking advantage of multiple hits and an error to push the lead to 9-0. The Bobcats added two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to extend the margin.
Georgia State broke through in the seventh inning. Wills Maginnis and Nick Garagozzo each singled before John Beverley worked a walk to load the bases. Cole Griffith delivered a two-RBI single to right field, and another run scored on a fielding error to cut the deficit to 11-3.
Maginnis led the Panthers with two hits, while Garagozzo and Cooper Milford each added a hit. Griffith drove in two runs for Georgia State.
Cole Roberts (0-2) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs over 5.0 innings. The Panthers used five pitchers in the contest.
Georgia State will return to action Tuesday, March 31, traveling to Athens to face Georgia. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
