ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State fell to Texas State, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The Panthers move to 13-15 overall and 2-6 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Texas State improves to 18-8 and 5-3 in the conference.

In a tightly contested pitchers' duel, both teams were held scoreless through the first seven innings. Georgia State starter Jake Hembree was dominant, tossing 6.0 shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

Texas State broke through in the eighth inning when Jackson Cotton delivered a solo home run to right field, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Georgia State had limited opportunities offensively, finishing with three hits in the contest. Nick Garagozzo recorded a triple, while Wills Maginnis and Cooper Milford each added a hit.

The Panthers threatened in the ninth inning after Lucas Grantham reached and advanced to third, but were unable to bring home the tying run.

Michael Caruso (3-3) was charged with the loss after allowing one run over 3.0 innings of relief while striking out four.

Georgia State and Texas State will conclude the series Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
