Panthers drop 3-1 Road Match to Florida State

TALLAHASSEE – The Georgia State volleyball team (7-2, SBC 0-0) fell on Monday night as the Florida State Seminoles (5-3, ACC 0-0) posted a 3-1 victory at the Tully Gymnasium.

The non-conference loss dropped the Panthers to 7-2 on the season.

Myllena Torquetti powered the Panthers' attack with 12 kills and a .269 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, Marta Lazzarin tallied 19 digs while Emily Harden added 14, as both reached double figures.

How It Happened

Set 1 | The Panthers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-14. Georgia State trailed by as many as 11 points as Florida State never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Seminoles took control.

Set 2 | Georgia State fired back after dropping the first set to take the second set 25-21, tying the match at one set. The Panthers scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Georgia State opened up as much as an eight point lead at 8-0 before closing out the set, totaling 17 kills in the process.

Set 3 | Georgia State lost the third set, putting the Panthers in a 2-1 hole. The Panthers fell in a tough set 25-18. Georgia State trailed by as many as seven points as Florida State grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Seminoles took over the lead.

Set 4 | Georgia State then fell in the fourth set 25-16 to finish off the match. The Panthers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before closing out the set.

The Panthers continue on the road out west to Hunstville, Texas for the Bearkat Classic. GSU will face Sam Houston on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. ET and Houston Christian on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. ET.
