Freeman Breaks Record against Louisiana

ATLANTA – Kaleb Freeman homered and broke the GSU single-season record for doubles but Georgia State fell 10-4 to Louisiana at the GSU Baseball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

A senior from Flowery Branch, Ga., Freeman went 3-for-5 with one RBI on his solo home run in the sixth inning.  He led off the game with his 24th double of the season, shattering the previous single-season record of 23 set by Mark Mortimer in 1997.

Jesse Donohoe gave Georgia State (24-25, 9-15 Sun Belt) an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out double that scored Freeman from second, but Louisiana responded with one run in the second and two runs on a home run by Luke Yuhasz in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

GSU pulled within one in the fourth on a line drive by Nick Garagazzo that ricocheted off the first baseman's glove with runners on first and second, but the Ragin' Cajuns broke the game open with six runs on six hits in the fifth to pull away for good.

Head coach Brad Stromdahl, "It was a very tough weekend. We didn't pitch well enough and we didn't hit well enough. They executed really well, did a great job and you tip your cap, but we've got to move on. We have our own destiny in our hands and we can make sure that we handle our business the next two weekends. We've just got to regroup and recover."

Georgia State will face USC Upstate at the GSU Baseball Complex on Wednesday, May 7 at the GSU Baseball Complex in their final midweek game of the season.  First pitch is at 6 p.m.
