Georgia State Falls at Arkansas State

JONESBORO – Georgia State fell to Arkansas State 86-50 at First National Bank Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Mikyla Tolivert led the Panthers with 10 points and seven rebounds. Mya Williams shot 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-4 from three to score nine points, and Mahogany Matthews and Eghosa Obasuyi scored seven points each with Matthews adding two blocks, bringing her season total to 64 on the year.  The graduate student from York, Pa. entered the game ranked first in the conference in total blocks (4th Nationally) and blocks-per-game (2.82, 5th Nationally), and is now 13 blocks away from equaling the GSU single-season record of 77 set by Cody Paulk in 2012-13.

Georgia State (11-12, 5-7 Sun Belt) knocked down seven three-pointers but couldn't overcome a sloppy first quarter that saw then get outscored 26-5 by Arkansas State (15-7, 11-1 Sun Belt).  GSU showed some life when they went on an 11-2 run from 4:03 remaining in the second to 9:41 remaining in the third to pull within 18, but would get no closer.

The Panthers will return home on Saturday, February 8, when they host Eastern Michigan for the SBC-MAC Challenge at the GSU Convocaton Center.  Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
