Five Panthers Score in Double Digits in Georgia State's 80-76 Loss to Appalachian State

BOONE, NC --Five Panthers put up double-digit points, but Georgia State fell to the Appalachian State Mountaineers 80-76 on the road Saturday.

The Panthers (8-15, 4-7) had five players score in double figures, led by Cesare Edwards, who had 24 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Malachi Brown tacked on 15 points and three steals and Toneari Lane chipped in as well with 11 points.

The Georgia State offense was very productive from three point land, making nine threes on 20 attempts. Lane was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining three treys in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 35-25, Georgia State went on a 7-0 run with 2:22 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Brown, to narrow its deficit to 35-32. Appalachian State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Panthers down 38-32 entering halftime.

Appalachian State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-45 advantage before Georgia State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Jelani Hamilton's layup, to shrink the deficit to 58-51 with 10:39 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but Appalachian State managed to hold on for the 80-76 win. Georgia State took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 44 points in the lane.
