HUNTINGTON, WV --The Georgia State men's basketball team got a 39-point showing from the bench, but fell 84-80 to the Marshall Thundering Herd on the road Wednesday.
The Panthers had four players score in double figures, led by Jelani Hamilton, who had 15 points and five steals. Trey Scott III added 15 points and two steals off of the bench and Micah Tucker chipped in as well with 14 points.
Led by Joah Chappelle's three offensive rebounds, Georgia State pulled down 12 boards that resulted in 14 second chance points.
Hamilton's five steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 23-11, Georgia State went on an 11-0 run with 10:09 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Anthony Enoh, to narrow its deficit to 23-22. The Panthers then closed the rest of the gap and grabbed a 35-33 lead heading into halftime. Georgia State capitalized on seven Marshall turnovers in the period, turning them into nine points on the other end of the floor.
Marshall proceeded to take a 44-41 lead before Georgia State went on a 9-0 run to seize a 50-44 lead with 14:23 to go in the contest. Marshall re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 40-30 the rest of the way to hand Georgia State the 84-80 loss. Georgia State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 45 total points.
